We might have a job creation business that will create many well paid jobs for all sections of the community. We would appreciate your support for IRISH jobs.!!

Good man, good luck with the idea :))

Hi Big_Idea,
Just to clarify something. I was born in London 50 years ago (before D McW was even a twinkle in his fathers eye!) to Irish parents, and moved to Ireland about 6 years ago. No bandwagon here :-)
 Big_Idea 17/03/2010
Ever since David McWilliams came up with this diaspora idea, everybody had jumped on the bandwagon

Well said George.

Hi George,
Yep the track record is embarrassing. This is about changing the mindset (if possible), and moving away from the idea of 'tapping the diaspora' to one of better engagement. Respect and acknowledgement first.

I support the idea. But we have a lousy record as regards our cousins abroad. Use them for money or political influence,or for junkets around La Le Padraig, but sneer at them behind their backs.
We've all heard the idiotic Irish jibes at Irish-Americans, despite the fact that the Irish American often knows more about this country and its history than does the semi-literate Irish person.

And it's only a few years since the Argentine economy went down the tubes and the Irish-Argentines appealed to the Dublin government to be allowed send their children to work here for a year or two while Argentina stabilized.
The response from McDowell and O'Donoghue? A stupid silence. Latvians, Estonians, Poles etc., countries with which we have no shared history, walked unhindered through Dublin Airport, yet descendents of Irish emigrants to Argentina were turned away.

So a lot of this Diaspora talk is empty blather and bluster.

Anyway, the way things are going it'll soon be the Irish who are asking the Irish-Argentines to get them into Argentina!
