This project is designed to bring simple yoga, mindfulness and meditation practices to people who have suffered life-threatening conditions, e.g., heart attack, stroke, respiratory problems, depression, cancer. Patients suffering such serious conditions often complain of the lack of rehabilitation and aftercare facilities following admission to hospital. Many feel lost and abandoned as a result and find it difficult to adapt to life after being discharged from hospital.
Heart attack, stroke, cancer and respiratory diseases account for the majority of deaths in Ireland today.
A pilot breath and mindfulness project under the directorship of Consultant cardiac surgeon Mr. Mark DaCosta is already underway with a small group of heart patients in Galway city and is showing incredible results in terms of lowering blood pressure, improving markers of heart and respiratory health and enhancing overall wellbeing. We take the act of breathing for granted. But the fact that many of us do not bre More...

A Chara,
Let me begin by thanking you for the creation of the competition, “Your Country Your Call” and also the belief that anyone can make a change or a difference.
My proposal is simple in design and execution. It is the creation of a month every year devoted to a tournament dedicated to Adventure and Extreme Sport. The idea of the proposal is founded in an ancient Irish sporting occasion that predates the birth of mosses, but at the same time is for the future and not the past.
The Aonach Tailteann or ancient games of Tara belongs to the past but the symbolism and idea that it represented was what JJ Walsh and others tried to replicate down through the years. While the tailteann is alive in events such as the Kit Kat Schools competition, I propose to take it to the national level and to promote the idea abroad while showcasing what Ireland can offer and at the same time kick-starting a new tourism era, Adventure Island.
My proposal focuses on extreme sporting activities More...

We live in a country where money dominates. Decisions are made based on economic impacts. Has the past or indeed the present taught us anything, taught us that we don't know it all, or understand it all. Standards both moral and social need to be reassesed. Politicians, Economists, and many others tell us: we're broke, facing increased unemployment, increased mental illness, increased social unrest and increased stress.
The Celtic Tiger
- encouraged women back into the work place.
- more money for all.
Common Statement, "I just want my kids to be happy, content."
What are our policy makers doing to support families and children?
What do our policy makers expect?
A Garage man can't hang up a Pirelli Calender in his back room. A couple must do a Pre-Marriage Course beore getitng married. A porter can't change a light bulb in a hospitable etc., etc.
But anyone can have and then rear a child.
When a child is born a Health Nurse More...

Establish a quality mobile food service co-ordinated/supervised by local authorities.
Food to be centrally prepared and delivered in frozen condition.
This will greatly benefit central storage, distribution and storage by users as well as (a) reducing cost of distribution as weekly deliveries can be made (b) it better facilitates menu options for users (c) frozen food to be delivered in manner that enables easy heating in microwave oven and (d) thus the quality of the meal should be of high standard.
Individuals making use of the service are to make a contribution e.g. deducted from pension (to be means tested).

My proposal is to create the world’s largest database containing anonymous medical history and genetic information for the people of Ireland, and to sell this anonymous information to medical researchers around the world. Like many countries, Ireland is long overdue a switch to digital medical records. The benefits of such a system would be immeasurable including those of cost reduction, portability and accuracy. Yet one very important and understated side usage of such a system is that it would provide Ireland with the ability to provide a massive amount of epidemiological information for it’s patient population. To protect the privacy of the population, strong measures would need to be taken to ensure that it is impossible for individual private health information to be obtained by an undesired source. However, if such anonymity and of course individual consent could be maintained and obtained, the results would be powerful. We could then move to sell this information to res More...

The Cleveland Clinic in the USA has an ingenious solution for addressing transparency and productivity. Patients have full access to their records on-line. Obviously, security is key, as is screening of sensitive and time sensitive medical information, but it is a solution that works!
