While the developed countries are still suffering from recession, several so-called developing countries are rapidly recovering and leading the world out of the current doldrums. Official tourist figures show that the number of tourists visiting Ireland from these countries (i.e. the Rest of the World) rose by 8% in 2009, the one bright note in a thoroughly depressing report on our current tourist situation. Nevertheless, the percentage and ratio of tourists coming from the Rest of the World pale into insignificance when compared with our immediate European neighbors. Our proposal aims to attract these nouveau rich travelers to Ireland, especially those from the BRIC countries, with some innovative marketing and an online campaign while also putting into action a community based plan which would make Ireland a more attractive destination for new visitors. The time has never been better to reinvent our image, to reevaluate what made our country attractive in the past, while bringing s More...

Existing employers are presently trying desperately to reduce their headcount, there is a an embargo on the Public Service taking on staff and entrepreneurs find it impossible to start companies due to the TOTAL lack of seed capital. As a result of this situation it is simply not possible to kick start the economy by increasing employment. If not in these areas, where are the jobs to come from ? The 440,000 unemployed in this Country includes some of the most highly educated, determined and ambitious anywhere in the world. We want to work and more importantly we want to create employment. We have the skills, the products, services required to compete internationally in a knowledge economy. What we do not have is the support of ANY private or state sponsored agency who will provide the support required. Specifically, seed capital (NOT matching funds), unpaid mentoring, office facilities and contracts from public bodies. My proposal seeks to capitalise on utilising existing free resour More...

Your country, your call. For many years, Ireland has sold its wonderful scenery and amazing venues by word of mouth, music festivals and fantastic history tours throughout the country. We have not yet given the Irish people living abroad a say as to their country. With around 80 million Irish living abroad, let’s start showing our appreciation that they are Irish and let them all buy an Irish passport for €250 each. Do the calculations on that and is around €20 Billion, straight into the economy. With some people living abroad, knowing they can visit Ireland on a regular basis, no questions asked, they may move their industry back to their country because they have a passport, for their country.

In 2008 the National Lottery reported that they paid out €455 million in prize money. Along the way they also provided much needed support funding to many community, arts and leisure projects and activities to name but a few. But could the nation be benefiting more from our National Lottery? This project proposes that the Government bring in legislation to make all lottery winnings subject to a temporary 10% Job Creation Levy.......Now this may sound a little harsh on the winners but we must remember that these are extraordinary times and such times call for extraordinary measures. Why is Ireland ready to take on this challenge? To be honest we have no choice. Things are just too bad to ignore any potential source of income to support job creation and this really is money for nothing. The challenge is not in generating the money but ensuring it is administered effectively.

The application and practice of design is said to be the key to successful innovation. The ability of Irish businesses’ to utilise design as a tool for innovation will be crucial for their survival and growth in an increasingly competitive economy. Design will also play an increasingly important role for our public services and their task of meeting demand amid a financially constrained environment. Fundmentally speaking design is an inherently pragmatic discipline; this is why it is of such interest to both the public and private sectors in Ireland - it gets results. This proposal aims is to identify an actionable and achievable strategy for Ireland, which will help spark a culture of innovation. A researched and coherent plan that will reignite and sustain our business sectors, help us create new jobs, secure existing ones, and more importantly generate new opportunities and potentially new industries. It outlines 8 initiatives which can kick-start our economy and ensure sustai More...

Céad míle fáilte, Ireland - the land of a thousand welcomes is renowned the world over for it's great hospitality and people. As a country, Ireland is a democratic open economy. It is a member of the European union and the European single currency. It is a secular society with a relatively high level of freedom; free will, political and economic freedom. As a place to live Ireland also confers a number of distinct attractions. The country has a low population density even in urban environments. It is a safe, clean, healthy environment. Infrastructure is relative good and has been improved upon under the National Development Plan. There is a good, low cost education system right up to third level. People enjoy and have a good quality of life. The health system, while it comes under a lot of criticism, is free. The family unit is highly valued. It is protected and enshrined in law. An excellent level of social security and social supports exist. From a business perspective Irela More...

The building of environmentally , friendly homes , that are cheaper to build than conventional homes , take less renewable resources. and look stunning. This type of building would equire some training of builders but not extensive and as the world is going towards eco friendly , we could be the forerunners for a change rather than excuse the pun "paddy last" . its time we made use of skills and resources availbable in this country and tried to market them to the rest of the world. We have the core skills in building work , we have a huge down turn in the trade and there is many people out there looking for eco freindly cheaper homes without loosing quality . Couple the homes with the technologies of anaerobic digesters ( there is a lot of organic waste in ireland ) , micro wind turbines and solar voltaic . You will not only be creating jobs in the building trade and providing a huge social need of quality homes. but the homes will also help reduce emmissions which we are going to More...
