We have some of the finest renewable energy & precipitation sources in the world. We also have some of the mot beautiful scenery in the world. However most of these resorces remain unharvested & when we eventually do start generating from renewable sources our infrastructure is not good enough to make power export a viable option. We could feasably export water but at times we can't even cope with our own water needs. Our beautiful scenery can often be only seen safely by car as we have no footpaths or cycle lanes and the scenery is scared by the proliferation of telephone & electric cables on telegraph poles. We also have a massive human resourse out of work in the construction industry. The Utilities Interlink is proposed to provide a realistic and achievable system to link utilities to all our towns and cities while providing cycle lanes & footpaths. At the moment all our utilities follow there own tracks around the country. However all centres of population are linked More...

Make Ireland the home of the research and development (R&D) activity. Support the R&D and be perceived as the country where most of the industrial research and innovation. Convince the industries that Ireland is the country where industrial research should be based, the prototypes should be developed, and the new products tested and brought to the market. Communicate to the world that the well developed infrastructure in the country would permit high standards of living for the scientific personnel, the universities would provide high profile staff and the efficiently set up legal and political environment are ideal to develop and to license new products. Basically, offer a stable working environment and high standards of living to those who want to analyse, develop and improve the technologies of the future.

The only way to change our economy is to have drastic changes in the way our Government runs the Country changes similar to what was done when Veronica Guerin was murdered and the CAB was established. Many people and even foreign Country thought that  it was too extreme and drastic but they were all proven wrong. And now most countries around the world have introduced the CAB. So it means that drastic changes might look extreme but if a Government has the guts and vision to think outside the box in similar ways for different infrastructure in Ireland For example 1. The pension : The pension age should be reduce to 60 for the next 3 to 5 year so for every pensioner you create a new job for student leaving university so the difference is that for thousands of 60 year old have no need to purchase a home and less need for a new car, unlike newly qualified university students. To drive the economy you need the young  people employed not 60 year + To increase the pension age to 70 is More...

Ireland has a unique opportunity to become the first country in the world to energize its industrial and social frameworks by embracing population ageing as a positive phenomenon, with enormous potential to not only harness the energy of older Irish people, to create new products and markets relating to ageing, but also to provide positive leadership in a world where the majority of older people live in the developing world. While the rest of the world focusses on the negative aspects of ageing, Ireland can steal a march by embracing the positivities and opportunities of maturing societies: according to the EU, the senior citizens market will grow by 81% from 2005 to 2030 while the 18-59 year old market will only increase by 7%! The key challenge to realizing the Demographic Dividend is to embrace the complexity of ageing, which means that growth and loss occur at all ages: a little known fact is that gains in longevity after 1970 have added $3.2 trillion a year to the US economy. Re-set the country to reflect Ireland as it is today The administrative structure that we have operating within Ireland today evolved during our Celtic Tiger years. With the basis of what we regarded as our growth now well and truly gone the old ways and old ideas will not get us out of the mess we find ourselves in today. We have spent enough time apportioning blame. The anger, insecurity and fear we hear in the voice of the people of our country confirm this, it is now time to look at the general structure and administration of our country and re-set it to reflect the Ireland of today. Make it new - the whole emphases will be on a fresh new administrative system that will reflect the size, population and economy of today. No looking back - an administration that will represent us NOW! Every company in Ireland has had to do this over the last two or three years, some companies did it successfully and are still operating - others have not - it seemed easier for them to More...

Ireland's greatest asset right now is its workforce; skilled, experienced and well educated. My proposal is to set up a semi state or state sponsered consultancy firm to provide consultancy and IT development to service the UK and Europe. Many companies who have sent development projects to countries such as India or Eastern Europe for the cheaper option are now regretting it. A difference of timezone and workpractice culture means many feel they have lost ownership of the projects they are paying for. This is where Ireland could cash in. With the close proximity to Europe,a large educated workforce and the great communication skills of most people here, this is how Ireland could win those contracts that are going further afield. As this would be a Government funded venture the Irish consultancy could price competitively for these lucrative contracts. The price may not be as low as India or Eastern Europe but many companies who have offshored to these countries have found out th More...

How! Make it compulsory for all technology multi-national companies to setup a research and development branch that will directly employ our eager newly qualified third level science and technology graduates. This will result in a spawning ground for innovation and remove the barriers to the development of new ideas which will inevitably result in the acceleration of the ‘Smart Economy’ and the gestation and growth of the next Irish born global companies!

'SOS' is a Social Outdoor Space for Transition year and Senior students of Secondary schools. SOS is a generically designed space that can be installed on all Secondary School Campuses. 'SOS' - The universal plea for help. Social Learning is an important aspect of development which is often forgotten about but is an essential part of how we communicate and exist together. 'SOS' = break / rest period / interval / (gaelic) We note that the Irish Architecture Foundation is acknowledged as originator of the programme for which the idea was developed.
