Ireland's greatest asset right now is its workforce; skilled, experienced and well educated. My proposal is to set up a semi state or state sponsered consultancy firm to provide consultancy and IT development to service the UK and Europe. Many companies who have sent development projects to countries such as India or Eastern Europe for the cheaper option are now regretting it. A difference of timezone and workpractice culture means many feel they have lost ownership of the projects they are paying for. This is where Ireland could cash in. With the close proximity to Europe,a large educated workforce and the great communication skills of most people here, this is how Ireland could win those contracts that are going further afield. As this would be a Government funded venture the Irish consultancy could price competitively for these lucrative contracts. The price may not be as low as India or Eastern Europe but many companies who have offshored to these countries have found out th More...

It is rare for any nation to have such a natural resource like the Phoenix Park (1752 acres to be precise!) on the doorstep of its capital city. My proposal is to establish the park as an eco-friendly learning zone. When complete the project will be a ‘must see’ for all visitors to Ireland as well as providing a learning centre for all citizens. The overriding goal of the project would be to develop this eco-friendly environment and learning centres in such a way that the natural beauty of the park is retained. Also it is vitally important that after the development the park can still be used by the public in the same ways that it is enjoyed by everyone today. The beauty of the park is not just confined to its trees and wildlife but also in its sheer size which means it could easily accommodate my proposal and yet retain all of its majestic beauty. My proposal is two fold: 1) Power everything in the park with the use environmental energy generated on site. That includes the stre More...

YourCountryYourCall Proposal CoppingOn Cloud Computing, by definition, is a ubiquitous resource. Ireland needs to act on this. We have the climate, the people, and hopefully the right attitude to grow a world-class export-driven product selling IT resources in the cloud. Cloud Computing, a growing phenomenon, is something that Ireland can and should productize and become a leading player in. We are home to some of the largest technology players that are right now banking on ‘the cloud’ to drive massive growth in their respective companies. One need only browse any business or technology column to get an idea of the hype surrounding Cloud Computing and ‘everything’-as-a-Service. The main sponsor of this competition is betting its shirt on the cloud and are very dedicated to making it a reality. Ireland should first tackle its own ICT debacle and show the world, starting with ourselves, that we can provide world-class ICT services at an affordable and predictable price. We More...

We are all talking about iPhones and Apps. My Plan is to develop a major Applications (Apps) industry in Ireland. Apple are enjoying huge growth in their sales associated with their iPhones, iPads, iTunes and now Apps. The scale of the Apple sales are of a scale that if we apply ourselves to Apps, we can enjoy significant foreign sales and rise out of this recession.

We are all talking about iPhone and Apps. My Plan is to develop a major Applications (Apps) industry in Ireland. Apple are on the crest of an enormous boom, with the sales of their iPhones, iPads, iTunes and now Apps. The scale of this boom is sufficently large that we can generate an Apps industry with significant foreign sales. The knock-on effects are unlimited, and we will be in a much stronger position to attract the next Intel or Dell to our shores.

Five years ago a new website was initiated which enabled people to share videos online. It started with an 18 second clip of an elephant at San Diego Zoo. Five years, millions of videos and billions of hits later, YouTube is a thriving business and a cultural and financial phenomenon. What I am proposing has the potential to be the next Google, YouTube or Yahoo. What I propose is a website that will make available to visitors to any City, Town, Village or community, information in a standardized format, linked from a neatly designed page, on what a person should know to get the best out of a visit or investment in that community. Hey ! you say , that information is already available with some searching on the internet. But if you could go to a site which you know gave you the Local Knowledge in a clear standard format every time for every place you want to visit or do business wouldn’t you use it and reuse it ?

The idea is borne from the concept of marrying together human resources that we already have available in Ireland, with a worldwide need for this expertise to be made available and readily accessible. The organisation itself will be built on a solid foundation of sound values, a good business model and will incorporate coaching as a way of being, and enhanced communication as a priority. The Irish people are Irelands richest resource, for the most part they possess a natural charm, a listening ear, and a wealth of knowledge, they adapt well to changing circumstances and most importantly are well respected worldwide. For a small island we have a deep well and wealth of valuable resources. The name for the organisation is borne purely from the concept and vision of Irish brainwaves being utilised worldwide. This idea has the capacity to create employment and prosperity for Ireland, while re-engaging as an organisation with the essential community values of co-operation, mutual respe More...
