We have some of the finest renewable energy & precipitation sources in the world. We also have some of the mot beautiful scenery in the world. However most of these resorces remain unharvested & when we eventually do start generating from renewable sources our infrastructure is not good enough to make power export a viable option. We could feasably export water but at times we can't even cope with our own water needs. Our beautiful scenery can often be only seen safely by car as we have no footpaths or cycle lanes and the scenery is scared by the proliferation of telephone & electric cables on telegraph poles. We also have a massive human resourse out of work in the construction industry. The Utilities Interlink is proposed to provide a realistic and achievable system to link utilities to all our towns and cities while providing cycle lanes & footpaths. At the moment all our utilities follow there own tracks around the country. However all centres of population are linked More...

The National Water Conservation Scheme aims to provide water conservation devices for domestic and non-domestic customers at a discounted rate, allowing customers to reduce their water consumption in a feasible and affordable way. This would require the Government to establishment of a team with offices in each county, providing jobs in administration, pre-installation, manufacture and installation. Devices such as dual-flush toilets, water saving shower heads, dishwashers and washing machines and rain-water harvesting systems could be provided to the customer at a fraction of the cost, greatly reducing the daily consumption of each household. Installation of a smart metering system allowing users to track their water usage online is also provided for under this scheme. Domestic customers would pay for their devices directly or by way of a salary sacrifice agreement with their employer, similar to the Cycle-To-Work scheme. Non-Domestic customers will receive tax breaks on the device More...

Ireland is a country with a bountiful supply of rainwater. This is not unique among the world's nations but what possibly is quite exceptional is that most citizens have access to clean, safe and, it must be said, quite delicious water from taps across the land. As a well-travelled people, Irish people will aware that this luxury is exactly that, one enjoyed by a minority of the world's people and therefore one to be treasured by us all. At the time of this piece, Government plans are afoot to apply a price to this treasured resource, with the objective of ensuring we are all aware that this is a finite resource. What I propose is a nationwide initiative to build a water fountain in every village, town and city in Ireland. The fountains would be designed and constructed at a local level, supported by a national central committee consisting of a civil engineer, architect, an expert from the civil service. The fountains would serve a twin purpose:- to give residents, visitors, all com More...

The plan to stop the outsourcing of Irish hospitality and re-establish pride in the profession: At no cost, easily implemented: Expand on the traditional B&B menu with a signature dish beyond the full Irish breakfast. This could range from something as simple as a special muffin or scone to a bread pudding or breakfast casserole. Many people do not eat eggs or meat, and cold cereal doesn't cut it anymore. Highlight Irish produce, cheeses and jams, and smoked WILD salmon (see below). Showcase local crafts, e.g. use locally made pottery to set the table or vases to hold the flowers, or at least provide a map to local craftspeople's workshops. Promote traditional music -- play a CD of The Chieftains or Danu at breakfast (there's nothing better for sending your guests off on the right foot in the morning, and who knows, they might look for more of it). Real coffee (never instant), good Irish tea, a moment or two of chat. A personal connection equals a reason to come back. More...

Rainwater harvesting is collecting the rain from our roofs for to use to wash the car and water the garden etc..Why not store and pump the water in to the house for everyday use and this will cut down on mains water usage.
