- Create a Renewable Energy Centre of Excellence - Manufacture Electric/Hydrogen Transportation - Create & Export Tidal/Wind Generated Energy and Knowledge of same - Modify the way our government think and talk about leaving the planet in better condition then it was found - Clean up the rubbish of Ireland (I think it has to be "free" to dump rubbish for this to be maintained) - Become the mediators to world conflicts Notes: If we put the planet before our current social and financial set-backs, it will appear a lot more credible to the other world leaders.

My plan is to use school sites (National Schools and Educate Together fit the profile best) to demonstrate how building can be made carbon neutral and cost effective. The proposal is to make primary schools an example of energy efficiency through the strategically planned and well designed use of photovoltaic Solar Panels and Vertical Wind Turbines. The two technologies will compliment each other and reduce the reliance on carbon fuels. The operating hours of a school are consistent with the production profile of solar energy, as the building are typically not in use after dark. During the highly productive months of the summer the energy can be sold into the grid. If i were to be selected as i successful promoter of a project, i would put the prize money towards a feasibility project to evaluate the business model.

The proposal is to install large scale photovoltaic electricity generation on existing windfarm sites in order to maximise the amount of green electricity from the site. As the wind tends not to blow when the sun is shining and vice versa the same grid connection can be shared between the different types of generation. This means no new transmission lines will be needed.

The proposal is to install large scale solar photovoltaic generation on existing windfarms sites to maximise the amount of renewable generation from the existing sites. No new transmission lines would be needed as the sun doesn't tend to shine when wind production is high and vice versa. By setting the ratio of wind to solar correctly the grid connection could be used more efficiently than just having pure wind connected.

The seas that pound the shores of Ireland and the winds that buffet its coasts are a inexhaustible source of clean natural power. The time has come to harness their energy to build a new economy.

We have far been too engrossed in making money through property development. Why not use what is naturally free - our sea. Why not develop the air grid (wind turbines) to produce on demand electricity. To do this we need to build reservoir onshore - creating opportunities for people in the construction industry and have the air grid off shore pumping sea water onshore to the reservoir again creating employment in the electrical, automation, plumbing, civil engineering, chemical engineering and general construction areas as well as having on demand electricity. Ireland are currently wasting €€€ on fines to the European Union because of substandard water quality. Other areas to consider would be Anaerobic Digestion Plants to divert waste from landfill to state of the art recycling plants that separates supermarket waste which is fuel for an Anaerobic Digestion Plant. This idea will not solve all the countries problems but it will certainly go a long way into creating a country th More...

Look around you! Everywhere there are people in this country who can make a huge contribution in conjunction with others. My proposal deals with our abundant under utilized natural resources in a sound eco-friendly inclusive way. Bringing people together in the community to start growing things and from this growing ourselves . . locally. Doing something as old as time but in a new way with broader scope. It all starts with an allotment, sharing ideas, finding consensus and Growing Up!

Thomas Cahill in his book "How The Irish Saved Civilization" famously described how Irish monks preserved the flame of learning in Europe during the dark ages. It demonstrated how a small country can have a disproportionate influence on world affairs under the right circumstances. Irish monks benefited from being on the edge of Europe and out of the main path of the vandal hordes. They had the right skills and resources in the right place at the right time. Climate change is the great modern threat to civilization as we currently understand it. The recent volcanic eruption and the consequent fall-out from it gives just a little foretaste of the impact of the projected effects of climate change on human activities. Ireland is ideally placed once again to play a key role in what needs to be a global effort to address this issue. With the natural and human resources at our disposal and the head start we enjoy in some key areas, Ireland can become for the renewable energy industry what C More...

With the impending increase in the cost of fossil fuels we need to make more of our own natural resources. We have an abundance of wind and rain, and through the use of wind farms, we can convert surplus electricity generated to convert collected rain water into hydrogen through the process of electrolysis. This hydrogen can then be stored on site (ideally underground) and used to create electricity during lulls in the weather. This Hybrid Power Station would be able to supply electricity on demand thus reducing the need for fossil fuels. This in turn reduces carbon emissions. Surplus electricity can be sold abroad through the European Intercontectors. Surplus hydrogen could be sold for heating homes. This process could be researched and developed by the country's universities, collages etc. It would create lots of employment from constructing, development, maintenance and management. If the country does this it could be a leader in the field of finding an alternative to fossil fuels More...
